now there are more constituencies than political parties and none of the elected advocates can represent more than a fraction of the competing voices. we've no consensus and very real and sometimes conflicting issues to be addressed and solved by a not very bright governing or, for that matter ruling class. the smart people can't get through and the hapless don't have any useful answers. it's no wonder self-interest is the de facto spirit of the era.
when selflessness and a willingness to compromise are nowhere in evidence the stubborn adherence to principle is a poor substitute for insight and wise counsel. so much the worse for (us)...
to honor the worthy, pardon the mistaken and punish the wicked is a foundation the just life could be based upon. if the concept of justice were as relevant and was applied in cases as it was when initially conceived.
